"Scarless breast reduction" is done with twilight sleep anesthesia and a local sedative. With scarless breast reduction, an incision will only be made in the breast fold, in contrast to more conventional methods that include incisions going up the middle of the breast and around the nipple. Through this incision, the surgeon will insert a cannulla which is a thin surgical tube for the purpose of liposuciton. The scar is about ¼ inch, in the fold below the breast. There are no blood transfusions, no alterations in sensation, or the ability to breast feed is still the same, because there is no "cutting". The Liposuction phase, will remove fatty tissue but not the glandular tissue which is firmer. Post surgery, the skin displays a significant area of shrinkage, with the nipple/areola part often rising 1-2 inches upon being healed completely. Therefore, the procedure gives a substantial lift in the majority of patients, but the amount lifted is dependent on the patient's elastic skin characteristics, not removal of skin. This permits the procedure to operate without leaving scars.
